Officine Générale — Candle

Packaging Visual Identity Art Direction Advertising

Made at Officine Générale,
as graphic designer.

The Project

A khaki cube,
a hard shadow.

Daily Classics is Officine Générale’s in-house line. This project covers the candle packaging and how it is staged.

The box carries three pieces of information only: the embossed monogram, the line name and the signature “Make it your own on daily bases”. Everything else happens in the material — a textured khaki board — and in the light: one hard, directional source that throws sharp shadows and turns repetition of the box into pattern.

My Role

The packaging is handled as a module. Multiplied, aligned, offset or stacked, it generates a whole series of campaign images on its own — with no set and no model.

Building the Identity

One green, one light.

Khaki, black, and the grain of the board: the palette here isn’t an isolated graphic choice, it’s the house’s own.

The Decision

The packaging doesn’t illustrate the campaign — it is the campaign.

The Work

In detail.

01

The box

A close overhead view: the embossed monogram catches the raking light, the grain of the board stays visible. Typography is cut back to two lines of letter-spaced caps.

The box
02

The pattern

The box repeated in a staggered grid on black. The cast shadows, longer than the objects themselves, become half the composition.

The pattern
03

The isometric grid

On khaki this time, the same rule produces the opposite result: the boxes sink into the ground and survive only through their edges and shadows.

The isometric grid
04

Scale

Three boxes on their own, framed wide. The breathing space works as a counterpoint to the dense compositions in the series.

Scale
05

The stack

Boxes stack into irregular volumes: the line reads as a material to be handled rather than a product to be presented.

The stack
06

The ribbon

The last application: the line’s signature printed as a running band on the packaging ribbon, cropped diagonally to fill the frame.

The ribbon

In short

A house line,
held by one rule.

One material, one light, one module. The rest is variation.
